A Brother of Mr. Weir during their days at 360 E. Hamilton shared the following memory:
Cliff McKrell ’67: “Very sorry to hear of Sam’s passing. Many fun memories from 360 East Hamilton- the bat, his masterminding the “popcorn party.” Also finding a book in the library about rehabbing homes at the shore – looked at the picture of the author and said”that’s Sam Weir!” it was. saw him last at a Homecoming about 1970… a fun time then too!
A bat flew into his room one night. Sam caught it and kept it in a box as a “pet,” for a day or two. The popcorn jammy was during rush (my freshman year) – party room in the house was filled with popcorn about a foot deep. Lots of laughs and beer and people throwing the popcorn and jumping into it like a leaf pile. Reportedly, it was Sam’s idea. You could rattle the ceiling years later and popcorn would fall out. I remember Homecoming – Sam came back to the house on roller skates (from the stadium).
