At Alpha-Delta Chapter, we want to communicate clearly what the eligibility requirements will be for students who want to participate beginning fall 2017. What these requirements will mean in practice is that Fraternities will engage in a Continuous Open Bidding process in the fall, and formal recruitment will take place in the spring.
The practical impact on the Interfraternity Council chapters will be that spring recruitment will now involve the larger pool of students, rather than the fall. The impact on the Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations will likely be minimal, but we will continue to work with all four councils to determine the best pathways forward in implementing these new requirements.
Eligibility Requirements:
The following criteria must be met in order for a student to participate in recruitment activities, beginning fall 2017:
- Earned 14 credit hours at Penn State
- AP, dual enrollment, and transfer credits will not apply
- Have a 2.50 cumulative Penn State GPA
- Have no pending or active conduct violations or sanctions
- Attend educational information sessions hosted by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life and the student governing councils (IFC, MGC, NPHC & PHC).
Importantly, during this time, the University shall review this policy, giving consideration to the possibility of moving the required earned credit hours to 29 (the University’s requirement for attaining sophomore status) for subsequent years. Additionally, the University will be engaging in a significant assessment effort to evaluate the effects and educational outcomes of a deferred recruitment process.
